The Pathway feature is an attempt to restore the HFS feel to these catalogs. After all a catalog is quite un-Macintosh, although not so un-HyperCard. All you have to do to see which folders a file is in is to click the file name in its field. This will generate a dialog box with a graphic representation of the pathway displayed. While you may have files nested more than ten levels deep, AutoCat only displays the first ten. You will run into trouble, however, if the total pathname is longer than 255 characters (not just in AutoCat).
There are three buttons on this dialog box. One is Cancel which you can click on when you've satisfied yourself with the display. Another is Launch, which will be enabled as long as you are not displaying a folder alone. Clicking on launch will launch the file if you have the floppy in a drive, or it will prompt you to insert the floppy. If you are trying to launch a document, you will also be prompted with a Standard File dialog box to select the proper application. After you quit whatever you launched you should be returned to the same HyperCard Disk Card that you left.
The last button is Record which allows you to record pathnames for applications only. This allows easier launching. Please see the hard disk section for more details on this subject.
